Composition and Effects of Annona Muricata Forte

Annona muricata: This plant is also known as graviola. Its home is the Peruvian Amazon region, primarily the tropical areas of Peru. This evergreen, low-growing tree is characterized by semi-long leaves and tasty fruits, known as guanabana. Beneath the surface, they conceal a sweet and sour pulp of creamy consistency, reminiscent of a combination of strawberry and banana flavors. While in their natural habitats, the fruits are a welcome delicacy, they are not commonly available in Europe. They tolerate transport poorly, bruise easily, and then spoil quickly.

The use of annona in traditional medicine dates back to the pre-Columbian era. All parts of the tree, including the bark, leaves, roots, fruit, and even seeds, have their uses. In the Peruvian Andes, leaf tea is used against mucosal inflammation and crushed seeds against external and internal parasites. Bark, roots, and leaves found their application in Brazil in the treatment of diabetes, as a sedative, and against cramps. Indigenous tribes in Guyana use leaf tea or bark as a sedative and heart tonic. In the Brazilian Amazon, leaf tea is used for liver treatment, and oil from leaves and unripe fruits, mixed with olive oil, is recommended for neuralgia, rheumatism, and arthritis. In Jamaica, Haiti, and the West Indies, annona fruit or fruit juice is used against parasites, fever, and diarrhea. Bark, or leaves, are used against cramps, as a calming agent, for heart diseases, cough, and flu.

Since the 1970s, independent research has been conducted worldwide. Thanks to this, the plant is very well mapped. From an analytical and biochemical perspective, we know all the components and processes that help us understand and relate its undeniable effects. Despite all efforts, however, it has not yet been possible to synthesize a cocktail of substances that could be produced in the form of an effective drug. Therefore, a natural standardized extract remains the most accessible and functional form.

The main substances found in all parts of the plant are the so-called annonaceous acetogenins. These are at the forefront of interest because they are believed to have anti-tumor effects with selective toxicity towards tumor cells. Based on studies in three independent laboratories, it has been found that acetogenins slow down enzymatic processes that occur only in the membranes of tumor cells. This is why they are toxic to cancer cells but have no toxicity to healthy cells. Purdue University in Indiana (USA) has documented findings that certain acetogenins are also effective in killing tumors that have proven resistant to cytostatics.

To achieve the therapeutic effect of annona, doses that are difficult to obtain by conventional means, such as tea infusions or dry extracts in capsules, are required. Recommended Dosage

2–7 drops 1–3 times a day

The preparation is suitable for use in cycles not exceeding 30 days. It is recommended to repeat them at most 2–3 times a year.
